Ryugu (C0378) Data for "Prebiotic organic compounds in asteroid Bennu and Ryugu reflect divergent parent-body histories"

Angel Mojarro, Jose Aponte, Daniel P Glavin, Jamie E Elsila, Jason Dworkin, Harold C Connolly. 2026

This dataset contains gas chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry results acquired from subsamples of the aggregate sample C0378 returned from asteroid (162173) Ryugu by the Hayabusa2 mission. Three analyses were conducted: 1) 1.8 milligrams of sample was thermally degraded by flash pyrolysis at 600 C to release volatile and macromolecularly bound organic compounds; 2) 2 milligrams of sample was treated with tetramethylammonium hydroxide in methanol and analyzed by two-step thermochemolysis consisting of a ramped heating 400 to 500 C with cryogenic trapping of the evolved products, followed by flash heating of the same sample at 600 C; 3) 1.5 milligrams of sample was derivatized with N-(tert-butyldimethylsilyl)-N-methyltrifluoroacetamide in N,N-dimethylformamide. Associated blanks are included for all samples. Data was collected in full scan, multiple reaction monitoring, or simultaneous full scan and multiple reaction monitoring modes as specified in the sample list file. The purpose of this dataset is to characterize the macromolecular (insoluble organic matter - IOM) and solvent-extractable (soluble organic matter - SOM) organic reservoirs of Ryugu, including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and their alkylated homologues, sulfur-, oxygen-, and nitrogen-bearing heterocyclic aromatic compounds, carboxylic acids, amino acids, and nitrogen heterocycles.

Particle Cohesion Measurements of Aguas Zarcas, Tagish Lake, and Tarda Using Atomic Force Microscopy

Keanna Jardine. 2026

This dataset contains Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) measurements of particle cohesion for three carbonaceous chondrite meteorites: Aguas Zarcas, Tagish Lake, and Tarda. These meteorites were selected as terrestrial analog materials for comparison with samples returned from asteroid (101955) Bennu, using the same AFM-based measurement technique. The dataset includes raw force–distance curves stored as .txt files, with four columns corresponding to the extend and retract measurements. An accompanying adhesion.txt file provides the measured cohesion (adhesion) force values for each dataset. Individual meteorite particles (e.g., P1, P2) were measured at multiple locations or spots (e.g., Spot 1, Spot 2) to characterize spatial variability in particle cohesion. For each meteorite, measurements were conducted using two different AFM cantilever tips composed of the same material. The raw AFM data require correction and conversion using the cantilever spring constant (K) and deflection sensitivity associated with each tip. These calibration parameters are provided in the supplementary files for each meteorite, together with the complete set of cohesion force measurements expressed in nanonewtons (nN), organized by meteorite, AFM tip, particle, and measurement spot. Together, these data provide a detailed record of particle-scale cohesion measurements for three carbonaceous chondrites and enable direct comparison with analogous AFM measurements obtained from returned material from asteroid (101955) Bennu. The dataset can support investigations of the mechanical and surface properties of carbonaceous asteroid materials and improve our understanding of the role of particle cohesion in the physical behavior and evolution of primitive small bodies.

Major and trace element compositions of 35 Apollo 14, 16, and 17 impact generated rocks, and Ar isotopic data for 24 of these samples

Thomas Haber, Marc D. Norman, Victoria C. Bennett, Fred Jourdan. 2026

This dataset contains whole rock major and trace element concentrations for 35 lunar impact melt rocks and impact melt breccias from the Apollo 14, 16, 17 landing sites. It contains argon isotopic data (where possible with determined dates) for a subset (24) of the analysed samples. In most cases argon isotopic data were obtained on particles from the same sample split for which major and trace element data were obtained. Short descriptions and sketches of the particles for which Ar isotopic data were obtained are also included. The purpose of the dataset is to document characteristics that allow relationships between age and composition of Apollo melt rocks and melt breccias to be investigated.

Total Solar Irradiance recorded since 1996 from the PMO6 radiometer on board of the SOHO/VIRGO. The degradation correction is performed using the Machine Learning Algorithm discussed in https://doi.org/10.1038/s41598-021-87108-y

Atom probe tomography analysis of needle specimen OREX-501071-104 containing forsterite

David Saxey. 2026

Atom probe tomography reconstructed data from APT specimen OREX-501071-104, analysed in laser-assisted mode. All valid APT data is in included, using an extended (Epos) data format that allows generation of alternative spatial reconstructions if required. This data set contains a significant level of 69Ga contamination near the specimen surface due to ion implantation during specimen preparation with a monoisotopic 69Ga+ focussed ion beam. Overall, the data indicates a forsterite mineral phase with no apparent chemical inhomogeneities. A mass range definition file is included with all identified mass peaks.

Near- to mid-infrared biconical reflectance spectroscopy of individual particles from Bennu aggregate sample OREX-803124-0

Cody Schultz. 2026

This dataset contains near- to mid-infrared biconical reflectance spectra of individual particles separated from aggregate sample OREX-803124-0, returned from asteroid Bennu by the OSIRIS-REx mission. Spectra were acquired with a Bruker LUMOS infrared microscope under a purged, dry-air environment. Each spectrum is delivered as a table of wavenumber and reflectance values, accompanied by a reflected-light image recording the location of the measurement on the particle. The purpose of the dataset is to characterize the distribution of hydrated phases, carbonates, phosphates, and organic material among individual particles, and to constrain the aqueous alteration and space weathering history of the sample.
